We believe that the work we do together in Christ through God's Spirit brings wholeness into our world. Therefore, we (1) nurture personal authentic faith through thought provoking programming and small group bible studies where we aren't afraid to ask difficult questions, (2) commit to engage in vibrant worship together that moves us closer to God's Spirit, and (3) serve the vulnerable in our society just as Jesus did so that all might find wholeness.
First Christian Church began ministry in 1891 in a home in the city of Ontario, California. Through the years the people of FCC have been active in serving those without food, shelter, or clothing in our city. In the early 1900's, the people elected to affiliate with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada and built an historic sanctuary on the corner of Holt Blvd and Vine Ave. In the 1940's and 50's, FCC's membership grew to over 700 members, but the decades following saw decline. In 2024, the members sold the 100 year old sanctuary building to realign efforts to meet the needs of those in the broader community. They chose to serve people over property. This decision (although difficult) has reinvigorated ministry. A new vision focuses on radical love of God as a path toward wholeness in Christ, dedicated to diverse, equitable, and inclusive ministry. The new organizational structure adopts a partnership model that nurtures growth in membership, develops and supports progressive ministries, and assists non-profit organizations in their work to provide necessary resources and services throughout the Inland Empire. We are excited to see what God will do in and through the people of First Christian Church in this next season of ministry!
